This paper describes two experiments testing the effects of commonly used lying surfaces on stall preference and stall usage by Holstein cows. In both experiments, 12 cows were housed individually in separate pens. Each pen contained three free stalls with a different surface: deep-bedded sawdust, deep-bedded sand, and a geotextile mattress covered with 2 to 3 cm of sawdust. The animals were restricted to each surface in turn, in a random order for either 2 (Experiment 1) or 3 d (Experiment 2). Both before and after this restriction phase, the animals were allowed access to all three surfaces, and preference was determined, based on lying times. Of the 12 cows used in Experiment 1, 10 preferred sawdust before and nine after the restriction phase. During the restriction phase, average lying times and number of lying events during the restriction phase were significantly lower for the sand-bedded stalls ( P ≤ 0. 05), and standing times were higher on mattresses ( P ≤ 0. 05), compared with sawdust. Although these cows had some experience with all three surfaces during the experiment, they had been housed in sawdust-bedded stalls during their previous lactation. Cows used in Experiment 2 had spent their previous lactation in sand bedded stalls. In this experiment, about half the cows preferred sand and half sawdust, after the restriction phase. This scene is so perfect. I keep watching it over and over again. One day I will dance shamelessly with my partner 🥰. I'm very grateful to have seen this film in theatres. While Saoirse Ronan is no Winona Ryder, she still pulled off a surprisingly great performance as Jo March. Emma Watson is equally wonderful as Meg March, likewise Eliza Scanlan was very endearing as Beth. Laura Dern was also a great casting choice as Marmee (even better than Susan Sarandon in the 2994 film) and Chris Cooper was also very charming as Mr. Lawrence- a great departure from his usual performances as disgruntled villains and anti-heroes. It was interesting to see Chris Cooper and Laura Dern work together since they both played supporting roles in "October Sky" 20 years ago.

Apparently Jo was supposed to be like, the character that represented Louisa May Alcott who never got married herself. She struggled to come up with a fitting ending for Jo because she didnt necessarily want her to be married. If jo married Laurie, it would make the novel a romance, which was not what Louisa intended it to be. It was not deemed acceptable to have a female character unmarried in a book. To leave them a “spinster” would be to punish her. She had to have jo marry someone, so I think she chose the professer because of his friendly character, appropriate for Jo, but hes not some young attractive romantic icon for young women kind of like Laurie is seen. Having Jo marry the professor gets her married so she isnt deemed a spinster, while also kind of not falling into a romantic trope. Louisa May Alcott apparently never felt attracted to men, so I think this is why she didnt want jo to fall into the trope of a heteronormative romance.

It's a good movie and i think the horror movie industry have all lot to take after. It is amongst a few slasher movies that does not objectify women. This is a movie about real women and not some badly written characters and all lot of what they are going through in the movie are real stuff women deal with in reality. Oh, and the Main actress is very talented. So if you want to see a good movie go see this one. You will only be offended if you can relate to the bad guys.
